Gateway students mark Day of the Dead…

To honor El Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Gateway School students and their classes collaborated on an ofrenda project that has become a school tradition.

«Thursdays, Nov. 13, Dec. 4 and Jan. 22 in the library at DeLaveaga Elementary School, 1145 Morrissey Blvd.
»
In Spanish classes, students learned about the history and traditions of Dia de los Muertos as well as constructed several of the decorative paper skeletons, sugar skulls and tissue paper flowers for the alter. Art students created rubber marigold stamps for the stamped wall paper behind the ofrenda.

Second-graders learned about bones and built their own individual skeleton dolls from recycled items, for which they wrote unique life stories.
