UC campuses admit more Californians after years of falling rates

Published Wednesday July 6

The odds of getting a coveted admissions offer from a UC campus rose this spring, reversing a downward trajectory that has been a source of angst for Cali. families, according to figures released by the university Wednesday.

Nontheless, despite another year of record-high applications, admission rates for Ca. high school seniors rose at all 9 undergraduate campuses. The uptick was the direct result of a systemwide expansion plan: a total of 5,000 completely new seats this fall for undergraduate students.

Latino, African-American and other underrepresented-minority students made up 37.8 percent of confessed freshmen, UC reported, compared with 34.6 percent a year ago.
