More fireworks tickets, fewer calls to Watsonville police during Independence Day

WATSONVILLE >> Watsonville police wrote 22 tickets for $1,000 each for fireworks possession on Jul 4th doubling the number of fireworks tickets that officers wrote during last year’s holiday.

Lieutenant Jorge Zamora commented there were 197 calls for service and 75 of those calls were complaints of illegal fireworks. During 4th of Jul in 2015, Watsonville police fielded 304 calls for service including 62 calls related to fireworks, police stated at the time .

“Education does not work. Tickets are the only thing people are going to understand,” she wrote.
