Drizzle doesn’t damper Day on the Beach

Published Saturday July 16

SANTA CRUZ >> An overcast sky with light drizzle did not prevent hundreds of people from descending on Cowell Beach for the 24th annual Day on the Beach.

Each year, Shared Adventures organizes and hosts the event for families in the special needs community, allowing them to experience kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving and other beach activities. Those families would have a more complicated time coordinating the activities on their own, commented Foster Andersen, who founded Shared Adventures and started the event.

“You usually need an experienced person that knows what they’re doing,” he said. “A lot of people don’t have that knowledge or the capability to pay for somebody.”
