Artisans Gallery turns 40 with a party

Published Wednesday July 27

Artisans Gallery, the middle of the city Santa Cruz retailer that allows local artists an entry into the marketplace, is celebrating fourty years with a party open to the public on Sat Jul 30.

The business began as a cooperative that highlighted Santa Cruz County artists and craftspeople, but was rescued after the Loma Prieta Earthquake by John and Juleen Lisher. After John Lisher’s death in 2008, the business was sold to Linnaea Holgers who first began working at Artisans in 1992.

I cover the arts scene in Santa Cruz County and write the weekly Sun column for the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Reach the author at wbaine@santacruzsentinel.com or follow Wallace on Twitter: @wallacebaine .
