Co-football champions SLV, Harbor to settle a score — 20 years after epic tie

Published Friday July 29

On a rainy Nov evening in Santa Cruz in 1996, Harbor High’s not heralded football team and powerful San Lorenzo Valley squared off for the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title in a televised game. They played to an epic, 14-all tie in front of hundreds of umbrella-toting fans.

Sat in Felton, some twenty years later, the teams will resolve the score.

Clear blue skies are expected for the showdown. The only thing missing is tumbleweed.

“I want the other team to acknowledge we’re the champs, if we win,” commented Harbor quarterback Wali Razaqi, a movie producer and 37-year-old father of two.

And the likelihood of bodily injury is high.
