Loch Lomond’s water clarity gets a checkup

The Santa Cruz Water Department will celebrate one hundred years of providing drinking water with a series of public events and reading lists for kids and adults. Here are some milestones:

1916: The city delivered water treated with chlorine via redwood pipes, then built the Bay Street Reservoir, replacing a reservoir at what now is the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum.

Aug. four: Tour Beltz twelve Well and Water Treatment Facility, 1 in the afternoon

Aug. 27: Walk with rangers to scout birds of Loch Lomond Recreation Area, ten in the morning $6 per N.C.

Sept. fourteen: Tour with water historian Melanie Mayer, ten in the morning Space limited; reservations required. 831-420-5213.
