High School Football: Prather dismissed as Harbor’s head coach

Published Friday November 25

Harbor High’s administration relieved head coach Waylon Prather and his football staff of their coaching duties Tue evening following a 2nd straight winless season.

Prather, 31, took over a varsity program that went 2-8 in consecutive seasons. It finished 0-10 Thu Jan 1 1970 last season. Low turnout this season forced the Pirates to scrap their junior varsity team and only field a varsity squad.

Prather, a former standout at San Lorenzo Valley High and San Jose State who works as an elementary school teacher in San Jose, was informed of Harbor’s decision via email, as was line coach Jimmy McIntosh.

“There’s more to football than winning and losing,” Prather said.
