SANTA CRUZ >> Millions of people come to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk each year to body surf, enjoy the rides or simply soak up the CA sun. But few of them notice the dramatic, relentless changes in the city’s coastline that are wreaking havoc on the beloved amusement park.

After the federally funded jetties were built in the early 1960s, they blocked the natural eastward movement of sand, depositing it on Seabright Beach and Main Beach. The beaches have continued to widen and extend the sandbar, blocking the river’s flow into the Monterey Bay.
