Santa Cruz County to see more hotel rooms, more organic fields

SANTA CRUZ >> If all the hotels approved in Santa Cruz County get built, that will increase the number of rooms by 25 percent, an opportunity and a challenge for lodging establishments, according to Maggie Ivy, who heads tourism promoter Visit Santa Cruz County.

Cannabis is lucrative and could drive up the price for leasing land and greenhouses, but it requires a large investment and a lot of oversight, so Tom Broz, the 1st organic grower to be Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau president, won’t change his operation.

Tourism, which draws three million visitors a year, generates $800 mill. in revenue and $14 mill. in taxes.
